Amazon is buying Whole Foods Market for 13.7 billion dollars. The online seller is taking over the grocery industry and that leaves grocery stores such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and supermarkets thinking about they next move. It also brings competition for companies that deliver groceries online such as Fresh Direct and Peapod. Interestingly, only 2% of about $600 billion in annual grocery sales are made online. However, things are planning to change when traditional grocers shift more sales online.
Amazon buying Whole Foods is scary for grocery workers because Amazon is a leader in using robots. However, Amazon said that they plan on keeping everything the same within the Whole Foods market. The only difference is customers could buy their groceries online.
